Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026
African Hope Services (“AHS”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a registered Canadian charity (CRA number 703925545RR0001). This policy explains what personal information we collect through africanhopeservices.org, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It covers this website only — it does not cover information our in-country delivery partner, AHS Nderagakura, may collect separately as part of running programmes in Burundi.

Information we collect

We collect personal information you choose to give us: your name, email address and message when you use the contact form; your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter; and, if you create a supporter account to start or manage a fundraising campaign, your email address, display name, and whatever you write into your campaign (title, story, goal, and your self-reported progress updates). We do not collect payment card details ourselves — see “Donations are processed by Zeffy” below.

How we use your information

We use your information to reply to your message, send the newsletter if you’ve subscribed, operate your fundraising account and campaign page, and keep the basic records Canadian charity and tax law require us to keep. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Donations are processed by Zeffy

Online donations through this site are handled entirely by Zeffy, our third-party donation platform — your payment details go directly to Zeffy, not to AHS. Zeffy’s own privacy policy, available at zeffy.com, explains how they collect, use and protect that information. We receive only the information needed to issue your tax receipt and say thank you: your name, email address, and the amount and date of your gift.

Fundraising accounts

If you create a supporter account to start your own fundraising campaign, we store your account details and campaign content using Supabase, our database and authentication provider, so your page can work and be shared. A published campaign page is visible to anyone who has the link. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time — see “Contact us” below.

Cookies and local storage

This site stores a couple of small, non-identifying things directly in your own browser — the contents of your gift-catalogue cart, and your language preference — so they’re remembered between visits. This information stays on your device; it is never sent to AHS or to any third party. We do not currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes, we’ll update this policy first.

How we share your information

We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run this site and process your gift — currently Zeffy (payments), Supabase (fundraising accounts), and our website hosting provider — each of whom may only use it to provide that service to us. We may also disclose information if required to by law. We do not sell personal information.

Children’s privacy

AHS’s charitable programmes work directly with children in the communities we serve, and any photographs of children used on this site are governed by our safeguarding policy and used only with appropriate consent. This website itself is intended for an adult audience — donors, supporters and partners — and we do not knowingly collect personal information online directly from children.

How long we keep your information

We keep contact-form and newsletter information for as long as needed to respond to you or for as long as you stay subscribed. We keep fundraising-account information while your account is active. We keep donation and financial records for as long as Canadian tax and charity law requires.

Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical steps to protect the personal information we hold, and we limit access to it to the people who need it to do their work for AHS. No method of storing or transmitting information online is completely secure, but we work to keep it safe.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent — for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter or asking us to delete your account — at any time, by contacting us below. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
